This is a site of unique archaeological and historical interest which will be irreparably damaged by the proposed road development. The importance of Stonehenge is recognised by its status as a World Heritage Site, and as such should be left unaltered and visible from the existing road.

The proposed scheme would additionally alter the status of the site to one where it is not free to all, which is unnecessary and unfair to the people of Britain and international visitors who flock in their millions to see this amazing site, especially at significant times in the solar calendar.

There would also be considerable disturbance of local wildlife, including some rare species of bird (the Great Bustard and the Stone Curlew), as well as increased road noise and danger from faster traffic.

This astonishing and extraordinary site has been called an unparalleled landscape by UNESCO, whose international advisers are in opposition to the scheme and, in truth, there is no necessity for road expansion. More roads only lead to more cars, and pollution is already far too heavy in rural areas. We do not want to turn Britain into an urban raceway.

Britain is in possession of a very few outstanding historical attractions, which greatly contribute to its appeal as a tourist destination. Destroying the natural environment of one of these is a wanton waste of money and is entirely unethical.
