For too long the World Heritage site at Stonehenge has been subjected to the noise and visual blight of a major road. This A303 Stonehenge National Infrastructure Plan does too little to solve the problems. Of course there will be disruption of many types wherever the entrances to the tunnel are built but these should be built completely outside the area of great national and international archaeological importance. This is such an important matter that to do this major project in a half-hearted way that will ruin the site for ever is little short of a criminal act that will be regretted by future generations always. Stonehenge and its environs should as far as possible be returned to the wild and silent atmosphere that was intended for it when it was built. Other options for achieving this goal should be sought
