The scheme will cause irreparable and unwanted damage to a unique World Heritage Site, its archaeology and setting, which is described by UNESCO as a ‘landscape without parallel’. It will destroy the possibility of future exploration and excavation of the site, including the Blick Mead Mesolithic site, with the permanent loss of invaluable information about the heritage of our peoples in these islands. It is a massive act of cultural vandalism.
Furthermore, UNESCO’s international advisers say the scheme should not go ahead in its present form, and there is a lack of alternative options in consultation that would not damage the World Heritage Site.
