I would like to register my objections to the the proposed A303 Expressway. I believe this will cause irreparable damage to a World Heritage Site, potentially undermining the structure of Stonehenge as well as destroying ancient remains of major historical and spiritual significance. The ecological impact threatens local wildlife including rare bird species. The area is already saturated with through and tourist traffic which can only increase as a result of the Expressway, forming bottlenecks either side of the new expansion. Currently, access for Stonehenge visitors is routed away from the A303, allowing through traffic to keep to the original route, with full view of Stonehenge from the road. This will no longer be possible. The site is not just a tourist attraction - it is a spiritual retreat and sanctuary and should be preserved with the same respect accorded to other faiths and belief structures. I cannot believe that such a road proposal would be made with regard to any cathedrals, churches, synagogues, mosques or temples of equal significance.
