The area is part of a World Heritage Site. Signifcant headway has been made in recent years in terms of archaeological investigation and we are finally beginning to grasp a greater understanding of the area and it’s enormous history but much has still to be done. The tunnel not only threatens the prospect of further important finds but is in itself a massively insensitive ‘structure’ to its surroundings. Stonehenge and the area around is one of the most important prehistoric sites in the WORLD. We have a duty to be custodians of both the physical monument and it’s environment, for us and for future generations. We should be exercising more responsibility and be seen to be setting the right example not the wrong one. This isn’t just a local issue this is global and we set a precedent for irresponsibility towards our heritage.
