UNESCO’s international advisers are against the scheme as it stands.
Stonehenge and the surrounding landscape is a unique archaeological World Heritage site and would be irreparably damaged if this scheme goes ahead.
There are other ancient sites in the vicinty which could also be damaged or destroyed. Local wildlife would suffer, including some rare species.
The stones would no longer be visible from the road would mean no one would be able to see the site unless they paid to enter.
There is a view that other, less damaging options, are not being considered as part of the consultation.
