I am against the building of the A303 Expressway at Stonehenge.

The character of Stonehenge is peace and tranquility, it brings about feelings of connection to the past when humanity paid much more attention to the passing of time and the marking of the equinoxes. To subject this site to first the construction noise and traffic, then a continuous stream of traffic noise once the road is in use will completely destroy the atmosphere. Not to mention the archaeology of the Blick Mead Mesolithic site and the accessibility - there will be no way to view the stones without paying an entry fee to the site.

Stonehenge is a World Heritage Site, important to more than just the UK. UNESCO calls Stonehenge a 'landscape without parallel' and has called for these plans to be dropped. It is a site used by rare bird species. Yet the A303 Expressway will irreparably damage all that and it seems that very little effort has been made to find alternative, less damaging routes for this road.

At a time when we are all being told how important it is to cut back on the air pollution caused by cars, it seems counterproductive to be building bigger and faster roads.
