Having visited the site on several occasions I cannot see why the proposed dual carriageway cannot be moved much further from the site, as it not just Stonehenge but tumuli that are part of the ancient landscape.
Historically, too, it has been shown that expanding roads almost invariably leads to greater traffic volumes, which I am sure is not one of the objectives here.
There is also the threat to rare wildlife, which is already disappearing at an alarming rate.
