I dont believe that a sufficient number of viable alternative options have been considered in addition to the proposed scheme for the expressway. I think that more time should be spent as there are always other alternatives that could be constructed. The damage that will be done to a World Heritage Site will affect generations to come. I appreciate that traffic increases but we must not simply keep building more roads and destroying the landscape of this country. We have to consider making real changes to improving alternatives to using the car. Only then will we be able to tackle the traffic congestion. Otherwise you will just keep building as more and more cars take to the road which isn't sustainable if you want to retain countryside and protect vital World Heritage sites such as this one which has a unique landscape. I understand the site is home to some rare bird species whose habitat would be disturbed and their protection threatened. Although a relatively small point when considering other factors such as the threat to the archaeology of such a site, there will be the loss of a unique view of the stones if the expressway goes ahead in its current form?
