I am surprised that a scheme of this type is even being considered at such a unique and special site & one which has been attracting visitors from all around the globe for many decades. This is a World Heritage Site for goodness' sake! The problem will not just be a visual one, since the very atmosphere of the place will be blighted forever by both the construction and the extra traffic noise that will result from the changes, as vehicles move more quickly past the site. For those currently driving past, the sight of the stones is awe-inspiring and this joy will be lost if the scheme goes ahead. The damage it will cause will not be able to be reversed. Even UNESCO’s international advisers say the scheme should not go ahead in its current form and I am concerned at the short time the consultation is being given as well as the lack of alternative options which should be being considered alongside it. I am also concerned about the potential damage this scheme will cause to the Blick Mead Mesolithic site and its setting, as well as the disturbance to wildlife including birds which are considered to be endangered.
