The grounds for my objection are simply that the whole of the Stonehenge environs and their milieu form an ancient 'funerary landscape' which is not limited merely to the Stones themselves but encompasses all of the surrounding features with its barrows, Cursus, henges and so on. It would be sacrilege to interrupt this World Heritage Site by building a short tunnel where the terminals (and the work involved) would impinge upon this famous landscape. It would also mark us out as a nation of cultural vandals.
