Stonehenge has stood for 12,500 years. The internal combustion engine, which is less than 150 years old, relies on fossil fuel which is finite and will probably be exhausted before the motor car celebrates its 200th anniversary.
As long as we take no steps to destroy it, Stonehenge will outlive the car and the lorry and continue to be the most iconic monument in the world. Unfortunately a motor highway as currently proposed will sow the seeds of its destruction. Future generations will not forgive us.
