I object to the A303 Stonehenge proposal because of the serious damage it would inflict on a most important World Heritage Site (WHS).

Much of the damage would be visual: although close to Stonehenge the road is to pass through a tunnel, most of it within the WHS is to be above ground, and will dominate what is now an unusual prehistoric landscape.

The construction of the road is likely also to be archaeologically damaging. Most of the site has not yet been completely explored by scholarly excavation, which seems unlikely to accompany road-building. Also the construction, especially of the tunnel, will inevitably modify the drainage of the surrounding land, and might damage archaeological remains as yet undiscovered.
