The irreparable damage to the WHS, its archaeology and setting, described by UNESCO as a ‘landscape without parallel’ would destroy this unique piece of British history for current and future generations and possibly any chance we have of furthering our understanding of the period in which it was built, by digging up possible sites of historic and archaeological interest. The atmosphere of the site will be ruined by increased noise from faster traffic. UNESCO’s international advisers say the scheme should not go ahead in its present form.

In addition to the main site there are further concerns about damage to Blick Mead Mesolithic site and its setting and there is a clear lack of alternative options given in the consultation that would not cause damage to this and the World Heritage Site.

Furthermore, there would be the loss of the view from the road and the subsequent need to pay to see the Stones in future and most importantly the disturbance of rare bird species (Stone Curlew and Great Bustard) and other wildlife.
