The construction of the road and tunnel would amount to an act of national self-harm. The excavation required would irrevocably destroy any objects, artefacts, or clues that lie under the surface of this ancient landscape and forever damage our ability to learn about a crucial period of human history.
Stonehenge and the many other monuments that litter this area have a global significance. Willingly wrecking the chance to preserve this heritage, to explore this landscape in the most conscientious way, would be vandalism and sure to viewed with horror by future generations.
