Stonehenge is part of our history and heritage and should be preserved at all costs. A tunnel or bypass will.not reduce the traffic problems on the A303 but shift them elsewhere on the road . Thers is clear evidence from the M3 by pass at Winchester and the A3 tunnel at Hindhead that traffic build up shifts to other areas in the same road. If the objective is to increase traffic flow and reduce travel time, the case is not proven. The traffic delays are seasonal - I have been stuck on the A303 many many times on my way to Devon - but never would I want to risk ANY damage to Stonehenge for the sake of an hour of my time occasionally. Locals know other routes to take to avoid the traffic, Government needs to be strong and stand up to people who are mildly inconvenienced by traffic and value the preservation of a fabulous piece of historic architecture. Pure economics tell us that to risk damaging Stonehenge would be foolhardy for our tourist industry and we have already damaged local related sites. I understand planners are under pressure but this was a commitment made under the Cameron government which is now meaningless and can be overturned. Planners will not want to have the legacy of damaging Stonehenge in pursuit of a faster journey - surely?
