I am very concerned about the impact of the proposed tunnel on the northern part of the WHS in general and the sites at and associated with the henge at Avebury. These are already over-subscribed with some 350.000 visitors per year. If the tunnel goes ahead, we need to develop a strategy that minimises adverse impacts on other sites including those in and around Avebury, especially during the massive disruptions inevitable as a consequence of the tunnel construction, which will certainly take a number of years. I am also concerned by the length of the tunnel, which seems insufficient to ensure minimal impact on the various sites, discovered and yet to be discovered, in the area of Stonehenge.
