I object to the tunnel project, which threatens a UNESCO World Heritage Site of immense significant for British cultural heritage. There is no comparable site in Britain. Even if construction is carried out with an archaeological component, a large portion of the site will be permanently destroyed in the process. There will also be harm to the broader setting, including the landscape, and the loss of the views of the WHS from the existing road, which means only by paying a fee will one be able to see the Stonehenge monument within the WHS. The proposed scheme will also damage the Blick Mead Mesolithin site. UNESCO has already registered its opposition to the current project because of these concerns. The project should be halted, and the WHS preserved.
