As an Archaeologist and a concerned member of the public, I see 'no case' that would justify the permanent alteration and damage to the nationally and internationally iconic and heritage rich landscape of Stonehenge. As there has always been, there are other ways to solve the problems of 'traffic pressure and flow' in Wiltshire. If the focal point of this landscape is forever altered - the 'expressed' need for this scheme will have been an unnecessarily expensive, needless, pointless, and careless act of destruction with no return. I can not believe this is in the best interest of the people of Great Britain. I fully support the Stonehenge Alliance interest groups points below, and hope that the Planning Authorities involved will take all advice and opinions in before making what could be a very grave mistake.

  • Permanent damage to the World Heritage Site, its archaeology and setting.
  • UNESCO's advisers say the scheme should not go ahead in its present form.
  • Concerns about damage to Blick Mead Mesolithic site and its setting.
  • Lack of alternative options that would not damage the World Heritage Site in the consultation.
  • Loss of view from the road and need to pya to see the Stones.
  • Disturbance of rare bird species (Stone Curlew and Great Bustard). increased noise from more and faster traffic.

Sincerely, Julie Boreham
