I am extremely concerned about the proposed expressway, given the importance of the Stonehenge World Heritage Site to the history and culture of the United Kingdom. UNESCO's international advisers have said that the scheme should not go ahead in its present form. There is a risk of irreparable damage to the World Heritage Site, to the Blick Mead Mesolithic Site and its setting, and to rare bird species in the area (including the Stone Curlew and Great Bustard). I am also concerned that the proposed expressway would result in the loss of the view of Stonehenge from the road, and would result in visitors to the Stones needing to pay in future, which could unfairly result in people not being able to visit this national heritage site because of financial issues. No-one who cares about the culture and history of our country should want this scheme to go ahead in its current form.
