Over several millenia and certainly the last century millions of people have passed by Stonehenge and held in awe at its mystique and pondered it's significance. It is one of the most enchanting views in the country. Now some short sighted job serving politicians want to deprive future generations of children and adults alike of that view and condemn them to a dreary hole in the ground.

Far better to build a dual carriageway, sunk into surface if it must, as well as a decent lay by and parking area. This would allow those who wish to pause a while to do so without impeding ongoing traffic.

To willfully destroy thousands of years of archaeology for no long term gain should be treated as criminal. I suspect that in another century the car will be almost a thing of the past and such vast roads will not be required anyway. In another 500 years anyone looking back and seeing the destruction of this unique site for such short term gain will be horrified at our stupidity.

The money saved would be better spent in building a working by pass around Salisbury.
