Once this many-layered landscape has been re-purposed and redesigned purely for the convenience of the moment, it will to all effect have been destroyed. The layers of history, the fragile monuments, the peace and safety for wildlife, the serenity of its shapes and moods all teach a valuable lesson - that we can and should seek to preserve for the ages rather than just shatter and spoil for the moment. There has not been sufficient consultation about less invasive alternatives because the basic necessity of preserving the nature and identity of our physical nation has not even been taken on board.
