I am deeply concerned about this plan's inevitable irreparable damage to the Stonehenge World Heritage Site, its archaeology and setting, described by UNESCO as a ‘landscape without parallel’. UNESCO’s international advisers say the scheme should not go ahead in its present form, and yet this warning has been unheeded.
There was a clear lack of alternative options in the so-called consultation, that would not damage the World Heritage Site.
I also have concerns about damage to the Blick Mead Mesolithic site and its setting.
Alongside damage to and loss of cultural heritage in this area, there are also environmental impacts, including increased noise pollution, and habitat loss and disturbance of rare bird species; Stone Curlew and Great Bustard.
