Arundel Scate is a community group of around 200 residents concerned with the quality of transport infrastructure, impacts of transport on the environment, seeking progressive, evidence-based sustainable transport solutions. Arundel Scate's concerns over the Lower Thames Crossing scheme include: - levels of extra motor traffic induced by the scheme and the impacts - including safety - of increased vehicle movements on the wider region; - impacts on air quality, particularly, increased levels of PM2.5; - damage to landscape, wildlife and valuable natural habitat; - major climate impacts, including embodied carbon and loss of natural carbon sinks from such a large scale construction, as well as operational CO2e emissions; - the lack of accompanying active travel infrastructure. We are also concerned about poor VfM, but understand that this may not be a planning consideration.
