There is not much open land left between Gravesend and the Medway Towns. There is already the A2, the Medway bypass, the A226, the Gravesend to Strood railway and the HS1 railway in the vicinity. This is quite enough transport already. The new lower Thames crossing proposed is grossly destructive and will create yet more noise and air pollution for the local residents. The plan should be entirely cancelled. The Southern Valley golf course is a valuable amenity which will be lost. It also represents an important wildlife habitat with open land and small trees and bushes, different from the adjacent fields and woodland and it has been kept clean and well maintained. If the Lower Thames crossing goes ahead, thought should be given to replacement of this habitat, not just tree planting as there is already woodland adjacent. Any land for public access needs to kept free of fly tipping and scrambler biking or the locality will become even more squalid than it is already.
