The lower Thames crossing is deeply concerning and should not be granted permission. In 2019 the government signed legislation to commit the UK to a zero carbon emission based economy by 2050. Additional road schemes such as this are the last thing needed to help achieve this goal. It is well known that additional roads induce additional traffic which whether fossil fuel or electric still create carbon emissions at all stages of manufacture and use (even of not out of the exhaust) We should be targeting modal shift by enhancing public transport or all forms in all areas and reducing the number of journeys that are not practical other than by private car. If this is seriously attempted then the lower Thames crossing becomes superfluous. I am also concerned by the severe loss of habitat and biodiversity entailed in the scheme. The lower Thames crossing has more negative impact for its 14 mile length than the entirety of HS2 including the Eastern leg (currently on hold)
