This project is a shameless capacity increase in order to encourage growth of traffic at a time when the government should be planning for traffic reduction. National Highways predicts a carbon cost of construction of 37,000 tonnes CO2 and extra user emissions of 140,000 tonnes, not counting the induced traffic from the capacity increase and assuming that transport decarbonises according to the Department for Transport’s fantasy Decarbonisation Strategy.
