I strongly oppose this proposed project because it would be destructive and harmful. At a time of climate emergency and Carbon Net Zero targets, a project that emits nearly 2 million tonnes of carbon is unacceptable. Our country is one of most nature depleted countries in the world. We should not be destroying so much woodland, hedgerow, and habitats. The project would impact our wildlife, much of which is already at risk and under threat, including protected species. It would impact heritage including grade 1 and 2 listed buildings. It would destroy hundreds of hectares of agricultural land, which puts our food security at even more risk, at a time when it is already serious concern. It would increase air and noise pollution, at a time when too many areas are already suffering with illegally high levels of air pollution, and new PM2.5 targets are being introduced into UK law. Everyone deserves the right to enjoy the outdoors, not have their communities severed, and to breathe clean air. This project would be a waste of money that could be better spent on more sustainable options. My concerns about this scheme include the increase in carbon emissions of nearly 2 million tonnes at a time of climate emergency. It would be destructive and harmful to wildlife (inc protected species) and habitats, woodlands, hedgerows. See a loss of farmland at a time when food security is a serious issue. Would increase air and noise pollution. Sever active travel routes. Impact heritage assets. Be a waste of £1.2bn at a time when our country's economy is a mess, with very little economic benefit, and at a great cost to the environment and our health and wellbeing.
