The Department for Transport has issued a letter notifying Interested Parties that the Secretary of State has extended the deadline in which to respond to his latest consultation of 21 October 2021. The deadline for any response is now 3 December 2021.

The Secretary of State’s Statement of Matters (PDF, 179 KB) issued on 11 June 2021 set out that he had appointed an independent aviation assessor to advise him on matters relating to the need for the development and to draft a report summarising those findings. This report has now been published.

The Secretary of State has now issued a letter (PDF, 176 KB) to the Applicant and Interested Parties inviting comments on the independent aviation assessor's draft report (PDF, 3 MB), the suite of responses to his first consultation and other representations deemed relevant for the purposes of the re-determination of the application. The deadline for any response is 23:59 on 19 November 2021.

The suite of responses to the Secretary of State’s first consultation for the purposes of his re-determination of the application to upgrade and reopen Manston Airport has been published.

The Secretary of State has issued a letter (PDF, 146 KB) setting out the next steps following receipt of the responses.

The independent aviation assessor appointed to advise the Secretary of State on matters relating to the need for the development will now draft a report, which will take into account the consultation response suite. This report will be published here in due course and, alongside the consultation response suite, will form the subject of a further consultation.

The Secretary of State has responded (PDF, 125 KB) to a query seeking further information (PDF, 268 KB) on the redetermination process and has refused a request for an extension to the deadline for responses.

Following the High Court’s Order dated 15 February 2021 quashing the decision to grant development consent for the upgrade and reopening of Manston Airport, the Secretary of State has issued his 'Statement of Matters' (PDF, 179 KB) and invites Interested Parties to submit further representations for the purposes of his re-determination of the application. The deadline for any response is 23:59 on 9 July 2021.

16 February 2021

Following an Order of the High Court made on 15 February 2021 the decision of the Secretary of State dated 9 July 2020 to grant the application by RiverOak Strategic Partners Ltd for development consent for the proposed redevelopment of Manston Airport has been quashed. The Secretary of State must now re-determine that application. Further details on the re-determination process will be published here in due course.
