I regard the retention of Manston Airport as a strategic National Importance. As a freight hub it could save thousands of landing slots at Hearthrow and Gatwick, thus negating the need for a third runway at Heathrow. With Brexit next year it is the quickest way to secure our future of a global trading nation, as Heathrow would take many years and the destruction of communities to achieve. Riveroak would have not invested the millions of pounds in the project so far if they were not confident of success. The last point is that Manston is the second longest runway in the country, so it would be ideal for emergency landings so as not to cause massive disruption at our major airports.
