The proposal appears to meet the criteria to be accepted as a nationally significant infrastructure project. It provides the only realistic option for the necessary increase in air cargo capacity in the medium term. This is the only opportunity for the creation of a substantial number of jobs in the area and would go a long way towards solving the long standing lack of proper employment in Thanet. It must be unique for an airport proposal in that it has overwhelming support from the residents. The few that may object have no real grounds in the light of Manston’s long history as an airport (at times with infinitely noisier aircraft than anything envisaged now.) This development does not prevent the attainment of other land use targets. There is sufficient land in Thanet, without the airport site, to meet all other future needs and targets (at this point one avoids making any comment using the words “realistic” and “housing” in the same sentence.)
