As a resident in Kent, I have witnessed several airport operators fail at the Manston site over the last 20 years. The site is bounded by the north and east Kent coast and so has only half a hinterland. This disadvantage is reflected in the outcome of the South East England regional airport review which recommended consolidating airport provision at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted which have better hinterland and airport infrastructure.

The current owner of the site(not the Applicant) has an advanced scheme for much needed housing, with some light industrial, and which is under detailed discussion with the Local Authority. This location is ideally placed to provide affordable housing for the region, and for those working in London who are currently priced out from living there. It is also not greenbelt/agricultural land.

Rather than more years of expensive airport failure at Manston, I would ask the Secretary to reject the proposal in the Airport Development Consent Application so that the much needed housing can proceed.
