I am in favour of opening Manston back up and restoring it as an airport. It has an amazing history as a valuable asset to the South East and the rest of the country. With one of the longest runways in the country it would serve well as an emergency/diverted aircraft facility. It's location would be perfect to house air/sea rescue helicopters to cover the whole South East area. It would bring much needed jobs and transport links to a neglected area i.e Thanet, with the potential to rejuvenate the whole area. With Brexit looming we need to give ourselves the best possible solutions to an ever competitive market. A cargo hub would be essential to the area and relieve pressure from the main airports. KLM made a statement that they were forced out of Manston and would love to get back there as they could see it had masses of potential, so an element of passenger travel included would be great for business and holiday travel. There are so many opportunities that making Manston a housing estate just simply wouldn't do - more houses/more people, no infrastructure and most important of all NO JOBS. Manston airport is an amazing opportunity for post Brexit Britain.
