The Herne Bay Coastal Community Team (CCT) is primarily focussed on regeneration of our seaside town through creating and supporting jobs creation projects. It is the wide belief of the CCT that the re-opening of Manston airport would create jobs in the area appropriate to the skill levels to be found in the local labour pool. Herne Bay has 3 wards which appear in the top ten percent of "areas of multiple deprivation" and each have very, very low standards of academic achievement (our Community Economic Development Plan provides detail and copies are available on request). A revived Manston Airport would, we believe, provide good quality, non-seasonal, sustainable manual jobs more geared towards vocational learning and reduce the reliance on academic achievements.
