I strongly oppose Manston reopening as a freight hub. I have lived on the flight path for Manston Airport for 38 years. I know what that is like. I have also witnessed the arrival of various plans to reopen the airport and all of them have failed. As a result the site has remained closed for many years and as that site has been closed, so the local towns have started to thrive. House prices have gone up and Ramsgate town is booming. The airport reopening will kill Ramsgate town. The proposal for night flights is vague at best but intelligent people know that to stop this venture collapsing like so many have before, there will need to be consistent and frequent flights, causing both noise and air pollution to people like me who live on the flight path. The proposal to create a vast number of local jobs lacks detail. What jobs? And more specifically how many of these jobs can be accessed by non specialised local people? I think we deserve to know what those jobs will be and how many can be accessed by the community. I am strongly opposed to the airport reopening as a freight hub. I fail to see how the negative impact of noise, economic decline for a town I love to live in and lack of clarity within this proposal will make it any thing other than another short lived attempt to reopen Manston. Let’s stop throwing money at something, learn from many past failed attempts and continue to consider the best interests of local towns that are finally starting to regenerate after years of decline.
