I have lived in Kent for much of my adult life, although am currently in the US. My father lives in Birchington, which I know and visit often. I have seen the area in and around Thanet become more depressed over the years and despite the attempts of various shops and businesses there has not been enough progress. The working population of Thanet have the prospect of leaving the area for jobs, or staying and scraping by as best they can with the limited employment available. The revival of Manston Airport as a going concern would be of enormous benefit to the area. Businesses of many types would grow and take on new staff, who would have real prospects for advancement. In addition, the increase of passenger flights would relieve pressure on all London airports.and roadways.
