Manston Airport Planning Inspectorate Reference: TR020002 The TDC Local Plan leaves open the use of Manston as an airport. Thanet is an area of deprivation with some wards in the top ten of deprived areas. If used for housing where are the employment opportunities. Infrastructure for housing a large number of people is not there, existing provision is over stretched, Hospital, Doctors, Dentists and schools are already over subscribed. The airport can bring employment in a number of areas, including engineering, ground staff, maintenance and hospitality. In the past the airport has been used as an emergency diversion runway for both Heathrow and Gatwick in times of severe weather. It is in the National interest to maintain as an airport with future expansion needs following increase in overseas trade after leaving Europe, being used as a cargo hub to allow more passenger flights at both Gatwick and Heathrow whilst allowing more cargo dispersal to the South East.
