I am really distressed to hear that the airport could be opened again, I have lived in Ramsgate for about thirty years, and remember the cargo planes flying directly over my home. Sometimes at night, my whole house would vibrate and the noice was intolerable, no one could sleep through such a sensory bombardment. In the daytime the noice was so loud that conversations even in my home would have to pause, and if I was enjoying my garden the noice would force me to cover my ears.

Since the closure of the airport, cafes and bars have become more popular, sitting outside, enjoying the sea views and celebrating our coastal town whilst taking refreshments. The noice and pollution from the suggested planes will have a terrible detrimental effect on these and many other businesses in the area.

I am a managing director of an international fine arts production company called SPACER-. My business partner and I have just bought another industrial unit on Manston road. We presently employ five full time staff and numerous part time specialists. Our intention is to knock these units down and build a new ( green build) on the site. We are employing local architects, and will employ local businesses to create our vision. When completed we will be doubling our staff and take a major role in the cultural development of Thanet. The reality of having noises planes going over our homes and studios would mean that we would start to seek alternative premises.

The department of transport does not express a need to increase air freight, it improve the local economy, quite the opposite. People won’t want to live here, or send there children to our schools, the leisure industry will diminish. House prices will fall, and the place will become an undesirable place to be.
