Manston Airport Planning Inspectorate Reference: TR020002

Your representation: I am opposed to the reopening of Manston Airport because of: a) Air Freight uses very noisy, very large old polluting aeroplanes, many from third world countries which are now totally incompatible for the region. b) Flight path is directly over Herne Bay and thousands of houses. c) Night flights – With the ever increasing temperature due to climate change, open windows at night and night flights has only one conclusion, no sleep. d) Effect on the environment by HGV’s. Manston Airport has no piped aviation fuel supply. This means all the fuel will have to be transported in by large HGV’s which will then return for more fuel empty. All of the freight that lands at Manston will have to be distributed by road using HGV’s of which 90% will travel to Manston empty. This means there will be a substantial increase in HGV's using the A299 causing increased congestion, big increases in air pollution and noise 24 hours a day. Even now the noise at night from the A299 travels for miles, what will it happen with a significant increase? e) The wildlife on the Isle of Thanet will never be the same again. f) Housing and light industrial units are far more important. They will have a minimal effect on the environment and provide far more employment opportunities both immediately and far into the future.
