I am a resident of Nethercourt Estate in Ramsgate and I am against RSP’s DCO application to build a cargo freight hub at Manston due to the health and environmental impacts it would have on the area and the people who live there.

We have been told that RSP has no limit on Air Traffic Movements during the night despite it’s “worst case” assumption of 8 flights per night. A few years ago, when the airport was operating and even though the airport said there were “no night flights” we had to put up with numerous old cargo planes going over all times of the night. Each time they were so low and noisy that they caused sleep disruption for our entire household. My sons education was affected, as it was happening at a time that he had important exams to sit after having a disturbed nights sleep. Every time a night flight occurred I complained to the council and airport, only to be told it was an “unscheduled” flight.

I am also concerned about the affect it will have on our buildings. As our homes have been known to vibrate when a plane comes over.

As you say in your own documentation it will have a permanent adverse effect on the area and people’s lives.

In the more recent years, Ramsgate’s tourism has been on the increase, with many new people visiting the area. Why would people want to come to Ramsgate and sit and enjoy the harbour and surroundings when there would be continual planes flying increasing the noise pollution.

As existing airports have adequate capacity, there is no evidence that we need another freight hub. Not only would it adversely affect the lives of thousands of people, increase the traffic on the local roads, it would also affect the local wildlife and birds, which we have finally been allowed to enjoy from our gardens since the airport closed.
