I am against the reopening of Manston Airport because of: a) Air Freight cargo aeroplanes are large, always very noisy and old causing a lot of bad air pollution. Cargo companies use second hand aeroplanes because of cheaper costs, discarded by airlines in many instances because they have become old and not fit for purpose in our world of environmental awareness to climate change. They are not compatible for the southern region. b) Flight path is directly over Herne Bay and thousands of houses and people living in the town are most affected by its route and the low-level descent over their gardens. Herne Bay also has a large number of elderly people, some moving to the area because of its good air helpful to those with asthma etc.
c) Night flights and rising temperatures due to climate change with open windows at night will cause people to have insufficient sleep. d) HGV’s carrying fuel making round trips, of which one way would be empty to Manston Airport because there is no piped aviation fuel supply. This means there will be a huge increase in HGV's using the A299 causing increased congestion, air pollution and noise 24 hours a day. Even now the noise at night from the A299 travels for miles, what will it happen with a significant increase? e) An increase in distribution HGV’S using diesel and Manston Airport being a diesel fuel environment is not in line with the government’s latest guidelines.
f) The wildlife along the coastline will be greatly affected. g) Housing for local people and light industrial units are far more important. They will have a minimal effect on the environment and provide far more employment opportunities both immediately and far into the future.
