The main point I wish to make is about the importance of new employment in an area of high unemployment (Thanet) and the importance of jobs for local people.

Having a working Manston airport will provide jobs for local people, not just at Manston airport but with local businesses supplying the support services. We need jobs now, we need sustainable jobs for the future. Building houses will allow some employment whilst buildings are being built. After the houses and other buildings are built what then? My answer is many more people living in the area but no more new jobs.

Reopening the airport is likely to bring further new business investment as are new businesses are encouraged into the area. Young people are hopefully more likely to gain apprenticeships and a step on the job ladder.

Developing the airport will not put pressure on schools, the QEQM hospital and local GPS etc which are already at stretching point, which a larger population of people would inevitably do.

I fully support the plan to re-open Manston airport as an airport.
