My views are based on my experience as a board member of the London Stansted Cambridge Consortium ( the 17 regional planning authorities/ Stansted airport and other private bodies/ H/FE etc) and as a member of the Ramsgate Neighbourhood Planning group and prior to this as a cabinet member for regeneration in the London Borough of Enfield that included planning policy. Being fully familiar with planning policy arguments, I believe the submission is flawed for the following reasons; There is no evidence of national need to increase the cargo capacity in the south east based on the capacity at Stansted and the other main airports in the South east . Stansted is still well within its planning limits and as most cargo is in passenger traffic is due to grow across the south east, this will meet future needs. The infrastructure for cargo handling is already well developed at other airports and depots across the South east and no case has been made that such investment would be forthcoming. The proposed socio /economic development of the area ( visitor and business parks) would be seriously compromised on grounds of noise, pollution, taking land that would only provide low levels of jobs and wages. The financial robustness of the proposer does not meet any due diligence examination which has already resulted in planning blight Finally the knock on effect of removing land for major housing and employment use will have serious consequences for the area.
