In 2010 my eldest daughter had the opportunity to attend a local Grammar school in Ramsgate. Having attended an Open Day and whilst looking around the science block, which was of new construction and with double glazing, we experienced a commercial jet coming into land. All conversation ceased as nothing could be heard above the noise of the aircraft. It was explained that this occurred a number of times during the school day as take off and landings flew directly overhead. I thought this was unacceptable and to the determent of the school, to which my daughter did not attend. My home is located 3 miles northeast of the airport but when Manston began allowing takeoff & landings up to 2300hrs and after 0600hrs I would find myself regularly awakened from sleep by the excessive noise of the aircraft.
