The proposed cargo hub at Manston will cause irreparable damage to myself, my business, my 2 school-age children and my family life: wealth, health and happiness. Below I outline the main impacts.

  1. Air pollution. Evidence that SOX and NOX pollution from planes and additional freight lorries is of detriment to physical health are well documented and will impact my asthma and my children’s health.
  2. Noise pollution: my house is directly in the flight path, when these large cargo planes are landing they will be between 100 -150 feet above my roof. This will affect the material structure of our 130year old house, impact our physical cardiovascular, mental health and our sleep (via night flights) which will affect my children’s learning and hence their future prospects.
  3. The noise and air pollution means I will be forced to move my small pharmaceuticals consultancy business out of the area, as I will be unable to conduct or hear business meetings or maintain my health to work. This will withdraw >£200K revenue and 2 jobs from the town and we would withdraw from local voluntary work as school governors and charity case-worker.
  4. This is not in isolation, the economics of the town will be impacted as people with the means will chose to move to live elsewhere. Day trippers will cease to visit. Secondary jobs: will be lost creating a spiral of poverty and depression. Ramsgate will be a lost cause. This cannot be allowed to happen.
  5. In my opinion, the proposed positive impact on economic prosperity of a few jobs created at the cargo hub airport at Manston is vastly outweighed by the negative effects including the described job losses, health and future prospects to the town and people of Ramsgate.
