I would like to register my support for Manston Airport re-opening.
We have nothing in the south east for air travel nearer than Gatwick and Heathrow, Manston used to be so much more convenient flying to the near continent, even if to hub airports like Schipol.
A freight service would take the strain from Gatwick and Heathrow, freeing up much needed space in those airports.
Thanet also needs jobs that the airport would provide, far more than it needs more houses that will just put a huge strain on local resources such as GPs, hospitals, schools etc.
The housing complex suggested is nothing more than a money making exercise for a select few who have no interest in local issues.
Finally, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to save the airport. Once it has gone, it would never be replaced, look at how long it has taken an extra runway at Heathrow not to be built. It would be criminal to throw away such a useful public asset.
