Manston is an Airport with one of the Longest and Widest Runways in the UK. It should be reinstated as an Airport. The UK, and South East in particular, needs additional runway capacity. Manston has the capability of being reinstated as an operation airport very swiftly and could provide some of that required capacity in a very short timeframe. An operational airport would provide additional employment which Thanet drastically needs as this area has the very high levels of unemployment. Additional Freight capacity will be needed when the UK exits the EU. Manston is ideally situated to provide that capacity. Manston has approach routes over the sea. There are relatively few residential properties in the flight path. The effects of noise and pollution would be minimal. Manston has good road access and a fast railway line close by. Passengers could have access to London Rail Terminals in around 1 hour. Freight could also be transported by rail. Ramsgate Port is close to Manston Airport so this could be utilised in conjunction with the airport to transport goods, and possibly passengers, to Northern Europe.
