I believe that a resurgent airport will have a detrimental effect on the local economy. I am a local businessman who sells home furnishings in the Thanet area. As such I have experienced an upturn in people of working age relocating to Ramsgate. They all tend to buy older properties in town rather than live on the outskirts. One of the main attractions is the harbour which is directly below the flight path. Most estate agents will include a photo of the harbour when sending particulars and/or when posting details on the web. There has been numerous leisure related businesses starting up around the harbour and I feel that these will suffer and close. Visiting yachts will steer clear as occupants wont wish to be woken up. Ramsgate has been selling a dream these last few years and this will be totally undone if Manston airport should re-open.
