I have lived in Thanet all my life, I have seen Manston Airport as an RAF base, passenger and cargo hub, it has also been used for emergency landing when required. The Air and Sea rescue unit was also based there before being moved to Essex. I believe that if the building of homes is allowed on this historic Airfield it's history will be forgotten. The people who wish to build these homes have said it will create many jobs for many industries, my question is " What about the jobs when the building is completed". I firmly believe that what is needed here is a working airport, whether it be for cargo or passengers or even both eventually. This site is already here, the area needs this site to remain as it is. All the talk about extra runways being built at existing airports is to me a waste of money, when Manston already exists. It seems to me that it's only newcomers to Thanet who object to it remaining as an airport. Many people I have spoken to about this have said that the airport is a good thing in this area. It would create jobs on a permanent basis, not just until the builders have left. I hope that I will once again see the skies above my home filled with the sight and sound of aircraft. I may not be on a direct flight path but it was fun trying to guess what type of aircraft was flying past just by the engine sound and shape.
