I have been a resident of Thanet for 66 years and witnessed its slow deterioration over many years. There is high unemployment with little prospect of improvement. Plans to build thousands of houses on the Manston site will cause a massive influx of people predominantly from London which will have a massive strain on resources welfare and amenities. The so called long term emploment opportunities promised by developers will be minimal once construction is completed and those moving into this area will be forced to travel further afield for work thus adding to more congestion and polution. Given that we are shortly to leave the EU and hopefully increase our trading further afield, should we not be considering how we will deal with the increased demand for cargo. Given the ongoing problem of the need for further expansion of either Gatwick or Heathrow , wouldn't it be wise to consider Manston as means of relieving the pressure of cargo flights to these airports. Once its gone its gone for ever.
